The Stephen D. Menzies Rising Youth Athletics Foundation Sponsors Alabama Adapted Athletics Summer Camp

We are proud to announce our latest grant award to support the University of Alabama Adapted Athletics Summer Camp. This unique and incredible program provides education, community and competitive wheelchair basketball opportunities to youth athletes.

The Foundation’s three-year sponsorship commitment will help fund this year’s day and overnight Wheelchair Basketball Summer Camps.

Looking ahead, Alabama Adapted Athletics plans to launch its first para track and field summer youth camp in 2026. Our grant will also support the development of this exciting new initiative, providing more youth athletes with access to development opportunities.

Hosted at a state-of-the-art, fully accessible facility in Tuscaloosa, the Wheelchair Basketball Summer Camp welcomes youth athletes ages 12-18 from around the world.

In June, 30 day campers and 60 overnight campers are expected to arrive ready to work hard, build lasting friendships, and engage in an inclusive athletic experience.

Led by Alabama’s National Championship-winning head and assistant wheelchair basketball coaches, campers are coached and mentored by current collegiate student-athletes, showing them what is possible and what opportunities are available in their athletic and academic futures.

While developing basketball skills is a central focus, the camp experience goes far beyond the court. Campers participate in educational sessions, leadership groups that build independence, and specialized services, including proper fittings for their basketball wheelchairs.

Athletes’ parents also have access to dedicated programming for support and information sharing. Every element of the camp reflects a deep commitment to thoughtful, inclusive design and genuine opportunity.

We are honored to partner with a leading sports-based youth development organization that not only trains exceptional student athletes but also creates new opportunities and experiences for youth athletes. By removing physical barriers and opening doors to leadership, independence and community, Alabama Adapted Athletics is transforming lives.

We are proud to support Alabama Adapted Athletics' commitment to expanding access to adaptive youth athletics.
